This user guide shows you how to use the main functions of the program, using step by step instructions with accompanying screen shots.
DietOrganizer runs on a wide variety of devices, from mobile phones with small displays to PDA class devices like the RIM BlackBerry. Different devices have different ways of displaying their soft buttons, menus and other user interface elements (text fields, check boxes etc). Each device, maps the available commands on a screen to a combination of soft buttons and menu items, different devices/manufacturers use different mapping. For this reason the screen shots shown in this guide may not match those of your device, but the overall function will remain the same.

The summary screen shows a one line summary for each day logged. Because mobile devices have limited database memory you may need to manage the number of days that can be stored. To save space the detail lines (foods logged) can be removed but the totals retained using the 'Keep Totals only' option. Days for which only the totals have been retained are shown in light blue.
You can set values in the Options screen to automatically 'Delete'/'Keep Totals only' for dates a number of days old.
The status bar shows the amount of space actually used as against that available, some devices do not correctly reclaim space when days are deleted, if this is the case on your device use the menu option 'Compact Database' to reclaim the wasted space.

|
Menu Option |

|
Compact Database |
If your device does not reclaim space when days are deleted (or detail lines removed), then eventually the database will run out of space. This option reclaims the space by copying the data to a new database and deleting the old one. |
The Chart screen allows you to chart your daily calories, nutrients and weight over a number of days. You can choose the values shown and the number of days to plot.

Keep Totals only After (days) |
Automatically removes the detail lines (food lines) but keeps the totals from days that are older than the specified value. The default 999 keeps all detailed input. Use this option to automatically keep the database small (saving device memory) whilst maintaining a full history of daily totals. Note: the actual removal of detail lines takes place the next time the program is launched. |
|
Delete After (days) |
Automatically removes days that are older than the value specified. The default keeps all days entered. Use this option to automatically keep the database small (saving device memory). Note: the actual removal of days takes place the next time the program is launched. |
As an example of using the 'Keep Totals only After' and 'Delete After' options you could set the 'Keep Totals only After' to 10 days and 'Delete After' to 30 days. Then 30 days of totals will be maintained with the last 10 days containing the full details entered (all the food lines), enough to plot the last months details, copy and paste between the last 10 days and also keep the database storage to a minimum.
