Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I cannot register the product with the registration code supplied, it keeps coming up with 'Invalid Registration Code'

A: The unlock key is linked to every character of the user name on the registration details, so you must enter the user name exactly as given.

Additionally, for the Palm, the registration code is linked to every character of the name and hotsync name so both must be correct on your registration. If the hotsync name on the registration screen is not the one you supplied when purchasing then email support@dietorganizer.com with the correct hotsync name and we will generate another unlock key for you.

Q: On the BlackBerry, how can I backup my data to the PC?

A: You need to backup the Device database named 'RMS Databases' (this is all databases created by Java applications) in the Blackberry Desktop Manager 'Backup and Restore' option, you can use the Advanced... button to selectively backup/restore just this database.

Q: On my BlackBerry Pearl the option buttons are not working correctly?

A: This is a known bug with some Blackberry Pearls that affects all Java programs, I'm afraid there is no work around other than an operating system upgrade from RIM, other users have been able to upgrade successfully.

Q: The Palm version of the program has no foods in the database?

A: This happens if you don't load the database files into main memory, re-install the .pdb files to the device main memory and you will be able to see the foods/exercises etc.

Q: When I try to install the Windows Mobile (Pocket PC) version I get an error saying the program was designed for an earlier version of Pocket PC?

A: You should be able to ignore this message, it's just warning you that the program was compiled for an older version (newer devices can have higher screen resolution, this can cause some software to fail) but DietOrganizer does work fine with PPC 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0.

Q: Can you sync either of the PDA versions (Palm or Pocket PC) with the PC version?

A: No, sorry, at present there is no PC to PDA sync.

Q: Is it possible to get an unlock key for my home PC and work PC when I buy your product? What happens when I buy a new PC and want to reload the software?

A: The key (for the Windows PC version) is only linked to your name, you can use it on multiple PC's for your own use, so if you keep the unlock key in a safe place you will have no trouble loading on a new PC in the future.

Q: I need to transfer my diet organizer from one old computer to my new one. Can this be done or have I lost it? Please explain in detail as I am not that computer literate.

A: Your data is stored in a file with extension .dto, this file is most likely in your 'My Documents' folder, the file name is shown in the title bar of DietOrganizer when running.

All you need to do is copy this file from your old machine to the new one (i.e. copy it to/from a floppy disk), then open it in DietOrganizer (Menu option File/Open) or simply double click on it in Windows Explorer to automatically open it in DietOrganizer.

This file contains your foods and daily log but not your options (colors, columns etc) which you will have to setup again.

Q: I am upgrading my Palm PDA and I wanted to know how I can save my DietOrganizer data so that when I install the program on the new PDA, I can still retain my data inputs. Is that possible?

A: If you hotsync your current Palm with your PC, to backup your data, then use the same hotsync id for your new Palm, when you first hotsync, all your apps/data, including DietOrganizer program/data should be restored.

For your information the data you have entered is backed up (when you hotsync) on the pc in the palm backup folder:
C:\Program Files\Palm\<HotsyncName>\Backup
(where C:\Program Files\Palm is the place where you installed the Palm desktop software, this is the default, and <HotsyncName> is the hotsync name of the device).

The user files (ie the ones containing your log/foods etc) are named DORG_User...These are the files you can backup on your PC to make additional backups if required.

To Copy your data to your new device if you use a new hotsync id:

1) Install a copy of DietOrganizer on your new device.

2) Hotsync your old device (to save the databases in the backup folder on the PC).

3) Find the 9 DORG_User... files in C:\Program Files\Palm\<HotsyncName>\Backup and using the Palm Install tool install these to your new device.
4) If you use a new hotsync id you will need a new unlock key, in which case e-mail me with the new hotsync id and I will generate one for you.

Q: If I buy your product (DietOrganizer PC) can my husband and I both use it or do we have to buy two?

A: Yes the licence agreement for the Windows PC version allows this.

Note: the mobile versions are licensed per device, so for those products multiple copies must be purchased.

Q: Is the price on the 'Buy' page a onetime fee and are upgrades free?

A: Yes it's a one off fee for this version.

Minor upgrades are free e.g. 2.0 -> 2.1 etc but there may be a small upgrade charge for major upgrades (2.x -> 3.x)
